Desktop virtualisation and datacentre refresh solution for public school
Customer: Independent public school in Cambridgeshire.
The Challenge
The school wanted a better way to manage their server and desktop estate. The continuous cycle of imaging, patching and upgrading a large quantity of physical devices dispersed throughout the school was costly and time consuming. They also wanted to provide a more efficient method of delivering newer Operating Systems and Applications, such as Windows 7 and Office 2010, to their users.
The Solution
The school worked with EACS to implement a solution which supports over 1000 users across two datacentres. EACS helped plan, design, implement and project manage the entire solution based on VMware vSphere, Citrix XenServer, XenDesktop and XenApp.
The solution included:
- HP Blade server infrastructure across two datacentres
- VMware vSphere for virtualising servers
- Citrix XenDesktop POC for virtualising desktops
- AppSense for User Profile Management
- NetApp FAS shared storage platform across two datacentres
- IGEL Thin Client Devices and Universal Desktop Converters
- Provision of on-going Helpdesk and On-site Technical Support
Benefits
- Provides staff and students with a high quality, high performance desktop experience whenever they log onto the IT environment
- Reduced desktop support costs and simplified application rollouts and updates
- Extend PC lifecycles and defer desktop refresh costs
- Improved business continuity measures
